Bathtub Reglazing Q&A

Bathtub reglazing (also known as bathtub resurfacing) is a cost effective bathroom makeover alternative to painting or replacing a bathtub that is chipped, worn, hard to clean or an outdated color.

Surface Renew will repair chips or cracks and restore the bathtub surface to look and feel like new in a current modern color. You’ll save thousands of dollars and avoid days or even weeks of demolition mess and costly replacement. Estimates from the National Kitchen and Bath Association show the total cost to remove and replace a bathtub is $3,000 or more. Surface Renew’s bathtub reglazing will cost a fraction of that!

What is the Bathtub Reglazing Process?

Bathtub Reglazing Service

Bathtub Reglazing Service

Our bathroom tub reglazing process allows for guaranteed restoration reglazing of bathtubs. First, the bathtub is thoroughly cleaned using specially formulated cleaners to ensure a very clean and bondable surface. Next, all cracks and chips are repaired. A bonding agent is then applied to ensure a solid bond between the old clean surface and the new finish. Finally, our trained technician uses a fine-finish spray process to apply a hi-tech, durable new coating. This is not bathtub paint! It is a new bonding finish that looks and functions just like a new bathtub surface.

Not all bathtub reglazing companies are the same, so be sure to ask the right questions when considering bathroom tub reglazing and select a well reviewed bathtub reglazer with lots of experience and happy customers. We stand behind our work: Surface Renew Warranty

How long does it take?

A standard size bathtub, in reasonable condition, takes only 3 to 5 hours to reglaze (resurface). The tub will typically be ready to use within 24 hours, or even sooner depending on weather conditions and in home environment. In most cases we’ve seen tubs ready for use by the end of the same day it was reglazed.

How does bathtub reglazing compare to bathtub liners or paint?

Bathtub liners are plastic covers that are fitted over old or damaged bathtubs. Their cost is at least twice as expensive as reglazing and can take up to 3 to 4 weeks from ordering to installation. Liners can leak and create mold problems. Paint can easily chip or peel and is not a good alternative to be considered.

How long will it last?

Bathtub reglazing / resurfacing will extend the life of your bathtub 10 – 15 years or more when you use the same basic care and maintenance guidelines as recommended by new tub manufacturers. For example, Kohler, American Standard, Lasco and many others do not recommend harsh or abrasive cleaners; and neither do we!

A typical bathroom makeover can cost thousands to remove and replace the bathtub and tiles surrounding it, as well as install a new sink and vanity. Surface Renew can repair and reglaze bathtubs, shower stalls, sinks, countertops and tile surrounds. Reglazing can save you up to 75% over replacement costs.
